This might be my new favorite by Jennifer Peel (it's why I'm willing to make up a word for the title of this review). Seriously, this book had so much emotion and mystery pulling me deeper into Delanie’s life. Delanie is married to Peter. They were side characters in the first book in this series, The Sidelined Wife (which was super good too). There you figure out that Peter’s mom, Sarah, hates Delanie. More like despises her. It’s sad. In this book, Sarah takes her hate to new levels, making Delanie’s life most miserable when she unearths her secret life as a best-selling novelist of the Hunter Black series that has sold millions and millions of copies around the globe. When the news hits the tabloids and national media, Delanie’s and Peter’s seeming blissful married existence gets shattered by paparazzi, rabid fans, and nasty haters wanting their 5 minutes of fame in exchange for spreading lies about her. Delanie’s worst fear—that of losing her husband—is poised on a precipice, ready to happen.I inhaled this story. It spoke to me. It twisted my heart at times. It moved me deep in my heart. This is a story I will definitely read again and again. It is one of the most touching, yet entertaining stories I have read this year. The characters are phenomenal—so deeply layered and complex…which made them the beautiful part of the story. Delanie and Peter are a fantastic couple—one of my favorites ever!!! I also adored the weaving in of Delanie’s fictional story of Hunter Black and Laine throughout this book. So, so fun! I have nothing but good to say about this book. I disliked NOTHING. It’s amazing!!! I highly recommend this one.
I ate this book up faster than a fat kid starved for chocolate. I’m serous. It was addicting, and I couldn’t get enough of it. I fell in love with Peter and Delanie and couldn’t put it down. It was the kind of book that had me thinking about it long after I finished. It’s taken me some time to write a review to try and gather my thoughts enough to write how I feel.First off, I absolutely loved The Sidelined Wife, the first book in the series. I was excited to get my hands on this newest book, and it was every bit as good- if not better- than the first book. I really liked meeting back up with characters from the first book though, like Sam and Reed. Joseph is now a new favorite, and I can’t wait to read Avery and James’ story.Delanie is awesome. She is bold, confidant, witty, passionate, kind, selfless, vulnerable, and so real and raw. She reminds me a bit of Cheyenne from the author’s Women of Merryton series. I loved seeing inside her and Peter’s marriage. There were so many toe-curling moments, and yet the author kept it clean and classy.Peter was oh-so-swoon-worthy. He might come across as perfect, but don’t let it fool you. He is human, and seeing him and Delanie grow from the many difficulties they face was such a joy. I ached and cried for the hard moments- moments where it felt so hopeless. I laughed my head off at many more moments (ahhh- Mimsy!).I’ve felt kindof lost since finishing this book. The characters feel more like close friends, rather than works of fiction, and ending the book feels like saying goodbye. Good thing I can read it over and over!
Hang on to your heart with this one friends, because Jennifer Peel once again delivers an emotionally gripping story of love, loss and forgiveness that you will not be able to let go of. I am, even days later, still fully entrenched in the world of Delany and Peter.This story is told in the first person and Delany's whirling emotions became mine so quickly. She is witty, smart and handles difficult situations with humor and (most of the time) grace. I really love her. And Peter? Yeah. He's a rock star right along with Delany.This story was like a roller coaster of emotions. The highs are high, the lows are low. By the end of the book your hair will be a mess, your eyes will be watering and your heart will be pounding but you'll want to go right back and start it all over again. That's how I felt. I love books that make me feel something, with characters that I cannot help but root for. That's why I am such a fan of Jennifer Peel's books. She always delivers this. Always.My best recommendation? Get this book. Grab a fan and some tissues. You will need them both.Content: Some innuendo and talk of intimate relations between a married couple with no details but it is a married couple so you know that sexual relations are a part of their marriage. Mild swearing.
To be honest, I was a little afraid of this book when the early reviews mentioned keeping a box of Kleenex close. At the same time, I also knew I could not trust myself to start reading it right before bed, or I would stay up reading all night. Jennifer Peel is that good!I did not use up a whole box of Kleenex, but I did fall in love with Peter and Delanie. I cheered for them, cried for them, and blushed at their intimate moments (implied, not shown).My heart ached for Delanie, for her desire to belong, and her fear of not being enough. Despite her insecurities, Delanie was incredibly strong. I loved how she did not step back from her mother-in-laws verbal digs. Delanie might see rough around the edges, but when she is fiercely loyal, even to those who don’t deserve it.Jennifer Peel has done it again, with a steamily clean romance, a snarky heroine, kooky family members, and a story that will pull you in and leave you fulfilled.Content: mild language, mild innuendo, sex implied between married couple
